Universities to introduce PG courses in Communal Harmony

Mumbai, Dec 2 (UNI) The University Grants Commission(UGC) has communicated to 111 Universities in the country to start a Post Graduate Diploma in Communal Harmony and Social Peace.

The course is outcome of a research conducted on the causes and effects of communal riots by Special Inspector General of Police, Maharashtra, R T Rathod (IPS).

Dr Rathod told UNI that he had given some recommendations to the Centre and state government following which the decision has been taken.

The syllabus includes the Kantian Doctrine of peace, Police involvement with public in communal harmony, national integration, measures for preventions of communal riots and violence, he said.

Dr Rathod's has also designed certain schemes and programmes to be implemented by police during the communal violence.

According to Dr Rathod, the students are future citizens of the country and if national integration and communal harmony is inculcated in their minds they will certainly make efforts to prevent communal violence.
