UN reforms should be collective process: Minister

Kochi, Dec 2 (UNI) Union Minister of Labour Oscar Fernandes today said reforms in world bodies like the United Nations (UN) should be a collective process rather than the prerogative of a few countries.

Inaugurating a seminar on 'Root and Facts of Terrorism' at the 'Seventh Mujahid State Conference' here, he said ''various nations should come togther to resolve the problems in hand at world bodies like the UN instead of a few nations incorporating reforms through strength and veto power.'' ''It should be seen whether the international organisations were providing justice to the poor or not,'' he noted.

The Centre was taking steps to alleviate poverty and other related problems and provide justice to the poor in the country, he added.

Mr Fernandes said the 'Sachar Committee' had mentioned that the minorities belonging to the Muslim community were living in poverty.

''In order to wipe-off poverty, people should be empowered with skills and education,'' he added.
