Moderate earthquake hits Kashmir, no casualty

Srinagar, Dec 2 (UNI) A moderate earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale occurred in Kashmir today, but there were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage to property, Met office here said.

It said the temblor occurred at 1729 hrs this evening.

The Met office said the 4.8 magnitude earthquake had its epicenter at 37.0 degrees North latitude and 71.2 degrees East longitude in Hindukush region.

However, there were no reports of any casualty or damage to the property due to the temblor so far.

On October 8 in 2005, a massive earthquake of 7.6 magnitude on the Richter Scale wreaked death and destruction in Jammu and Kashmir and its neighbouring areas in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, killing tens and thousands of people and rendering millions homeless.
