Maoists bomb railway tracks in north Bihar

Chhapra, Dec 2 (UNI) Banned Maoist guerillas blew up a portion of railway tracks near Rajapatty station under Chhapra-Thawe sections of North-East Frontier Railway (NEFR) near here last night, disrupting train services for several hours.

Senior NEFR sources said since the explosion took place at around 2330 hours, uprooting about 15 inches of the track and some concrete sleepers, there was no report of any casualty.

A major damage was also averted as no train was scheduled to pass though the area after the mishap.

Claiming that the explosion was aimed at attracting the government's attention towards their demands and creating a fear-psychosis among the locals, Madhaura Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajendra Singh said the outfit had also given a North Bihar bandh call today to press their demands.

However, train services in the section were resumed at around 1450 hours today after repairing the damaged tracks, Mr Singh informed.
