Probe ordered into 'Aravana' contract at Sabarimala

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 1 (UNI) The Kerala government has ordered a vigilance probe into the alleged corruption in awarding a contract for supply of 'Aravana Prasadam' at the famous Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala.

The probe was ordered in the background of alleged irregularities in awarding the contract to Elite India exporters, official sources said.

The inquiry would also cover the roles of Travancore Devaswam Board president C K Guptan, a nominee of CPI-M, P Narayanan, CPI nominee and C K Sumathikutty Amma of RSP, they said.

Devaswom Minister G Sudhakaran had recommended a vigilance probe following complaints of irregularities in the contract and shortage of 'Aravana' after the temple was opened for the 'Mandalapooja' festival on November 17.

The ruling Left Democratic Front had also sought a vigilance probe into the issue.
