Twin blasts jolt Bengal-Assam border security system
Kokrajhar,Nov 30 (UNI) At least two persons were injured in separate blasts, which occurred on the Bengal-Assam border at Srirampur today.
Police sources here said that the first blast took place in a truck near the Srirampur check gate in Assam's Kokrajhar district at 1000 hours. The bomb was planted below the oil tank of the truck that was bound for West Bengal. A school teacher was critically injured in the blast. The driver and handyman of the truck, however, escaped unhurt.
The second blast occurred near the same location when a bomb, fixed to a bicycle, went off at about 1130 hours. The bicycle was parked near a petrol depot and much damage could have been caused had the blast occurred in closer proximity of the depot. Another person was injured in this blast as well.
Police further informed that another bomb has been recovered near the Srirampur check gate. An Army bomb disposal squad has been rushed in to defuse it.
Traffic movement through the inter-state check gate has been halted temporarily to avert any further damage. However, traffic was likely to be opened later in the afternoon.
