Plea to drop Sethu Project

Puducherry, Nov 30 (UNI) Alleging that the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP) would severly affect the fishermen community, the Puducherry Meenava Viduthalai Vengaigal had urged the Centre to drop it a release said. Here today.

According to a release. A resolution to this effect was adopted at a conference of the Vengaigal here yesterday.

Another resolution, urging the Centre to include fishermen in the Scheduled Tribes category, was also adopted.

The meeting also urged the Puducherry administration to expedite the construction of houses for the tsunami-affected fishermen and provision of Rs five lakh solatium to the families of the fishermen, who lost their lives in a ''shoot-out'' by the Sri Lankan Navy.
