Kottayam, Nov 30 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the Nair Service Society (NSS) and Christian leaders were opposing the education policy of the Left Democratic Government Government due to ''misconception''.

The government had not taken any step to interfere in the management of the aided schools, Mr Achuthanandan said after inaugurating the delegate session as part of the district meeting of the CPI(M) at Kaduthuruthy near here.

Referring to the joint memorandum submitted to him by the NSS and Church leaders ''expressing concern and protest on the education policy of the government,'' the Chief Minister said he would convene a meeting of the concerned to allay their ''fears.'' Criticising the Church leaders for their campaign against the Marxist Government, he said they were acting in deference to the interests of the American imperialist forces as in the case of the Liberation Struggle-1957 (Vimochana Samaram) against the EMS Government.

''It was not because of the ''direction'' of the bishops and other leaders that the ordinary Christians supported the LDF during the 2006 assembly elections,'' he said and asked the leaders to desist from their campaign against the government.
