Organised by the students of Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, the pet show showcased about 90 varieties of pets like parrots of different kinds, love birds, rabbits, pigeons, colourful chicks, ducks, turkeys, white mice and hens.
About 250 students studying in Class I to Class V participated in the show.
Mobile Veterinary Suregon and Founder of Veera Pet Clinic inaugurated the show at the school premises and interacted with the students.
''The show is aimed at highlighting the beauty of animals and to create an awareness about treating animals kindly'', School Principal P Prabakaran said.
The show was also to encourage students to grow pets at home.
''We are in a mechanised world and students face increasing tension. Growing pet animals at home will give them the much needed relaxation,'' Mr Prabakaran said.
