MoU signed to preserve, restore palace complex

Jammu, Nov 29: In a bid to recreate the old glory of the Dogra royals, the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society has signed a Rs 33 lakh deal with New Delhi's Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) for the documentation and preparation of detailed project report for preservation and restoration of palace complex, here.

The Memorandum of Understanding with INTACH was signed at a high-level meeting held here under the chairmanship of Roads and Buildings Minister Gulchain Singh Charak last afternoon, official sources said today.

The MoU aims at creating a model partnership between the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society and INTACH for the cultural heritage conservation project by way of conserving the entire Mubarak Mandi heritage complex as a tourism destination-cum-socio-cultural heritage centre.

''Under the pact, the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society will pay Rs 33 lakh to INTACH for the documentation of the complex, of which 35 per cent of the amount is payable as advance installment,'' the source said.
