15 Muslim countries donate 'Zakat' money, meat for cyclone victims

Dhaka, Nov 29 (UNI) Fifteen Muslim countries including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia pledged to donate 'Zakat' money and meat of sacrificial animals for cyclone victims of Bangladesh.

'Zakat' money is 2.5 per cent of an individual's total value of assets per annum, according to the Islamic rule. The animals would be sacrificed on the occasion of holy Eid-ul Azha in December.

The Ambassadors of the Muslim countries met Food and Disaster Management Advisor Tapan Chowdhury over a luncheon at a local hotel today and made the pledge.

The envoys also expressed solidarity with the people and the government of Bangladesh and assured all kinds of assistance to recoup the losses caused by the cyclone.
