Mizo body move to realise UN declaration
Aizawl, Nov 28 (UNI) Zoro(Zo Re-unification Organisation) has set up a committee to materialise the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.
The committee, formed yesterday, has appointed former 'Mizoram independence' activist R Zamawia as the chairman. The committee would oversee exploration of natural resources and the protection of the rights of indegenous people under the UN Declaration. It also would initiate steps to prevent acquisition of lands by governments and companies against a meagre compensation, said Zoro sources.
The committee will also ensure that the UN Declaration protects the rights to the nationality of the various Mizo tribes residing in India, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
