Centre to consider flood-lighting project on Tripura border

Agartala, Nov 28 (UNI) The union government has assured to consider the proposal of introduction of flood-lighting system along the 856-km long international border in Tripura and instructed construction companies to complete the fencing work by 2008-09.

Official sources here today said with the successful implementation of flood-lighting on 277-km border, along West Bengal and Bangladesh, the Centre had given the green signal to the NE states for extension of the project after completion of the fencing work.

The Government had sanctioned 3,406-km of barbed wire fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border, covering NE states and West Bengal and about 2,529 kms of border was fenced so far, while pilot project of flood-lighting in West Bengal was also completed.

An amount of Rs 2,881.58 crore has been incurred on border works, including expenditure incurred on the construction of 3,246 kms of roads and 23,051 metre of bridges, officials added.
