Petition against Bachchan's TV ads dismissed

Lucknow, Nov 27: Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today dismissed a writ petition, that challenged the TV ads of Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan highlighting purported low crime rate in Uttar Pradesh during the last state assembly poll.

This order was passed by a division bench comprising Justices U K Dhawan and S S Chauhan on the writ filed by Mr Brijbhushan Dubey.

The writ had challenged the October 15, 2007 order of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).

The petitioner had sought information from the Commission about the basis of Mr Bachchan proclaiming in his ads ''UP mein hai dum, kyonki jurm yahan hai kam'' (UP has the might, because crime rate is less here).

However, the petition was rejected by the CIC.

Later, the petitioner approached the HC by filing the writ, which was dismissed after hearing.
