Explosives seized from retd. principal's house

Sambalpur, Nov 27 (UNI) After the recovery of explosives from a lecturer last week, the police has seized a huge cache of such material from the residence of a retired principal.

Sambalpur Superintendent of Police Sanjaya Kumar said the police, acting on a tip off, conducted a joint raid on the house of retired principal of Rengali College Tulsi Das Mahana(60) yesterday night and found objectionable materials.

Last week a lecturer of Naktideul College and his friend were arrested after the police recovered explosives from the bike they were riding.

Mr Kumar said during yesterday's raid, police seized 35 packets of super electronic detonators, Orica explosives, 250 pieces power gel, three varieties of detonator charging wire measuring 750 metres, 10 packets of ordinary detonators and 179 pieces of explosive sticks.

The Police arrested Mahana and his son Seshadev(26) and produced before court today. They have been booked under sections 286/34 of IPC, 9B of Indian Explosive(IE) Act and 4/5 of Indian Explosive Substances(IES) Act.

During interrogation the retired principal couldn't give any satisfactory reply as to why he kept such a huge quantity of explosive materials at his residence, the S P said.
