Admn to prevent illegal sand mining

Puducherry, Nov 27 (UNI) The Puducherry administration is taking steps to prevent illegal sand quarrying from Sankarabharani river at Sellippet in the Union Territory.

According to official sources, the people in the area, who indulged in illegal sand quarrying, used to store the sand at different places and sell it.

Revenue officials conducted a surprise raid at several places and seized 20 lorry sand loads, which were stored. Another 50 loads were also seized this evening.

The sand would be sold out through the cooperative market, the souces added.
