66 candidates file nominations in Vadodara

Vadodara, Nov 27 (UNI) Altogether 66 candidates filed their nominations in Vadodara today on the penultimate day of filing papers for the second phase of polling in Gujarat scheduled for December 16.

While the government chief whip Jitendra Sukhadia and Congress candidate Ramesh Prajapati filed their papers from city's Sayajiganj consituency, Jayashreeben Gohil, the lone woman candidate fielded by the Congress in the district, filed her nomination papers from Vadodara (rural).

BJP's three-time MLA Yogesh Patel, who once turned anti-Modi for not being taken into his ministry, today filed his papers from the city's Raopura constituency.

Gujarat NCP vice-president Ashok Pawar also filed his nomination for Raopura. Arjun Padhiar was, however, the first Shiv Sena candidate to file his papers from Padra.

Actor and sitting BLP MLA Naresh Kanodia also filed his nomination from Karjan(sc) constituency, from where he was elected in the 2002 elections by over 28,000 votes.

Other prominent leaders who filed their nominations today included BJP's Abhaysinh Tadvi (Sankheda-st), Gulsinh Ratha (Chhotaudepur-st) and Jayantibhai Rathwa (Jetpur).

Congress candidate Jayesh Patel filed his papers from Waghodia to take on the controversial sitting BJP MLA Madhu Srivastava of the Best Bakery fame.

With this, the total number of nominations filed for the 13 assembly seats in the district has risen to 66.
