669 candidates in fray out state

Ahmedabad, Nov 26 (UNI) As many as 669 candidates are in the fray out of a total nominations of 887 filed for the first phase poll to be held on December 11. 218 nominations forms were withdrawn today.

Meanwhile 36 candidates from 11 Rajkot constituencies today withdrew their nominations on the last day of the withdrawal of papers. From Jamnagar 33 withdrew leaving 71 candidates in the fray to contest in eight constitutencies.

In Rajkot there are now 84 candidates in the fray for 11 constituencies while highest candidates are in Tankara constituency - 11 - whereas only five are fielded in Upleta constituency.

The main battle would take place between the two parties - Congress and BJP for the first phase elections scheduled on December 11.

Meanwhile, a report from Porbandar said, there are 23 candidates are in fray for two constituencies - Porbandar and Kutiyana -.

Bhura Munja, the brother-in-law of God Mother Santokben Jadeja is contesting his election from Kutiyana as he has withdrew his nomination papers from Porbandar seat.

In Jamnagar's Jodiya constitutency, the notable contestant is erstwhile municipal councillor Babubhai H Ghodasara.

In the second phase of filing nominations, overall 122 nominations were filed today for the elections to be held on December 16.
