Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, Nov 25 (UNI) Three undertrial inmates have escaped from a district jail here after sawing through a barrack door and using tied-up sheets to climb over a wall, police said while suspecting external help in the crime.

The escape came to light yesterday morning during the count when Vinod Prajapati -- accused of loot -- Mohd Shameem Kusmi -- charged with dacoity -- and Jharkhand's Jamuna Singh Dugri were found missing.

The collector, police superintendent and other officials reached the jail this morning. Checks are being carried out at the district's borders. This town's hotels, lodges and public places are under priority surveillance.
