KPTCL to spend Rs 5000 cr next year to correct distribution network

Mysore, Nov 25 (UNI) Karnataka Power Transmission Company Limited (KPTCL) managing director Bharat Lal Meena today said that to bring down transmission losses KPTCL would spend Rs 5,000 crore during the next near to streamline distribution system in the state.

Speaking to newsmen at Kadakola near here he said last year the KPTCL had spent Rs 2,300 crore for this purpose alone. The Karnataka stood fourth in terms of power supply and distribution.

Referring to Centre-funded Rajiv Gandhi rural electrification in the state he said KPTCL had taken up this programme and completed in 16 districts and it would be taken up in another nine districts in the coming days.

Speaking at a seminar here Mr Meena said that the power distribution losses have drastically come down over the last two years after KPTCL incorporated modern technology in the distribution system. Distribution losses had been brought down in both rural and urban areas. The networking in distribution has been thoroughly upgraded technically over the last two years to reduce the losses.

Over 300 delegates from all over the country are participating on the seminar.
