Dhaka, Nov 25 (UNI) Prison guards tonight foiled an attempt by five Islamic militants to escape from Comilla jail in Bangladesh, police said.

The Islamic militants led by Sheikh Nabil Ahmed whose father was the Chief of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and was hanged in March this year led the abortive attempt.

The police said the militants tried to escape by jumping the jail wall but the jail guards caught them after a scuffle. Five guards were injured but it could not be immediately confirmed whether or not the miltants suffered any wounds.

Coincidently, Nabil's father Sheikh Abdur Rahman was hanged in this jail in Comilla.

Six front-ranking JMB leaders including Sheikh Abdur Rahman and his second-in-command Bangla Bhai were hanged on March 29 for orchestrating bomb explosions across Bangladesh on August 17, 2005 as part of their campaign to establish Islamic rule in Bangladesh.
