Restoring the sacred tree at Gaya

Gaya, Nov. 23, 2007: The local administration in India's northern Gaya is taking steps to restore the glory of the sacred 'Bodhi tree' or wisdom tree, infested with Milli bug, a condition in which trees shed their leaves abnormally.

The fig tree is considered sacred by the Buddhists as Gautam Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment under the bodhi tree located in Bodh Gaya, 96 kilometers from Patna, the capital of Bihar.
