UHBVN detects 9,389 cases of power pilferage

Chandigarh, Nov 23 (UNI) Intensifying its campaign to curb theft of electricity, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has detected 9,389 cases of pilferage of power up to November 15 this year.

The teams conducted surprise checking in 1,09,262 consumers premises and imposed a penalty of Rs 8.67 crore on the erring consumers out of which Rs 4.08 crore have been recovered.

A UHBVN spokesman said here today that the Nigam had fixed the target of surprise checking of 1,18,900 consumer premises during the current year. About 92 per cent checking had already been made in a period of above seven months.

He said the Nigam had disconnected the connections of 1,60,940 non payers.

The Nigam had to recover Rs 89 crore from the non payers whose connections have been disconnected temporarily or permanently. After disconnections, the non payers deposited Rs 52.64 crore.
