Security beefed up for Kartik Purnima Mela

Ayodhya, Nov 23 (UNI) Following series of blasts in Faizabad, Varanasi and Lucknow cities of Uttar Pradesh this afternoon, security has been strengthened across this temple town.

After reviewing the arrangements, District Magistrate Anil Garg and SSP V P Tripathi said with terror threat looming large on the traditional Kartik Purnima Melathat, all circle officers and station in charges had been directed to maintain round the clock vigil at all famous temples in the city, especially the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi complex.

Besides, police in strength had been deployed at Saryu and Ghaghra river ghats, where a large number of pilgrims congregate for the annual Kartik Purnima Mela.

The first blast took place outside the civil court permises in Lucknow, while the other two occurred outside the court precincts of Faizabad and Varanasi.

While prima facie, the blasts were low intensity in nature, they left several passers-by wounded, intial report said.

In Lucknow, the bomb was kept on a carrier of a bycycle and went off around 1320 hrs.
