RSSDI conference on diabetes in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 23 (UNI) To deliberate on ways to check spread of diabetes in the country, Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) is holding its 35th annual conference here.

Over 200 delegates from across the country and neighbouring nations are expected to attend the three-day conference beginning today.

Chief Executive Organiser of the Conference Dr Subhankar Chowdhury said the mega conference was being organised at a time when India has earned the dubious distinction of being home to maximum number of people with diabetes.

''Today, there are more than 240 million people with diabetes all over the world and this figure is expected to cross 300 million by 2030,'' Mr Chowdhury observed.

India had 31.7 million people with diabetes in 2000 and by 2030 it would have almost 80 million diabetic people.
