New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was abruptly adjourned shortly before the lunch break today as the BJP-led NDA sought to prevent Mr Devendra Prasad Yadav (RJD) and Mr Basudeb Acharia (CPI-M) from raising during zero hour the issue of the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat.

Speaker Somnath Chatterjee announced an early lunch recess as the BJP and JD(U) members were on their feet objecting to allowing the Gujarat issue to be raised as it was not of recent happening.

Mr Yadav demanded a CBI inquiry into the riots in the light of the recent sting operation by the media exposing the alleged involvement of Ministers in the Narendra Modi government in the 2002 communal cleansing.

After the RJD member had made his point, the Speaker announced that Mr Acharia and Mr Ramjilal Suman (SP), who also wanted to raise the same issue, could associate themselves with Mr Yadav. Mr Chatterjee then called a BJP member to raise the problems relating to blood banks. Seconds later, the Speaker asked the BJP member to wait for a minute and allowed Mr Acharia to make his points. At this point, the BJP members were again on their feet.

Sensing the mood of the opposition, the Speaker adjourned the House abruptly at 1250 hrs to meet again at 1345 hrs.
