French Army chief to visit India next week

New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) French Army chief Gen Bruno Cuche is arriving here on November 26 on a five-day official visit, aimed at providing the necessary fillip to the ongoing army-to-army cooperation between the two countries.

With common concern on increased terrorism in the world, discussions on global and regional security situation, including enhanced cooperation in combating terrorism are also expected, a Defence Ministry release said today.

During his visit, the French General will interact with senior military and civilian defence hierarchy in India and discuss defence-related issues and prospects for future cooperation.

In addition, he will also visit Indian Army field formations and training institutions in Nagrota, Rajauri, Agra and Pune.

The army-to-army cooperation comprises numerous joint activities such as visits, observers in joint exercises, training and courses, exchanges between experts and equipment procurement.

''The activities between our armies in 2007 have shaped very well and the plan for 2008 will be finalised soon between the Defence Ministries,'' the release said.
