Bangalore, Nov 23 (UNI) The city police today arrested a 54-year-old person who was posing as the personal assistant to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and duping people.

DCP (Central) B N S Reddy told UNI that Gunashekar Pillai had contacted a doctor in the city and said he would get a de-addiction centre sanctioned in his name if he struck a deal with him.

After Dr Appaji Gowda bought an air ticket according to Pillai's direction, Pillai flew from Delhi to the city and shifted to a guest house in Sadashivnagar. He then invited the doctor for 'negotiations.' Meanwhile, Dr Gowda spoke to his friend and Congress leader D K Shivakumar about the PA.

The curious Congress leader visited the guest house but smelled something fishy and immediately alerted the police who arrested the Chennai-based imposter. According to the DCP, he would be produced in a Court tomorrow.

Mr Reddy said the imposter used to cheat people promising sanction of gas agencies, petrol pump permits and other favours from the government and swindled huge sums of money from them.
