Jammu, Nov 23 (UNI) At least ten people, including nine school children, were injured in a police lathicharge this afternoon in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

The clash took place following accommodation of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battalion in a community hall, situated in village Harni of Mendhar tehsil, which was being vacated for the purpose on the direction of the state government, official sources told UNI.

The sources said the CRPF battalion could not be accommodated in tents completely. Thus, few CRPF personnel were asked to stay in the community hall to which people protested and shouted slogans against the government and police.

They demanded that the hall be left for the locals and school students.

''We had to use mild lathicharge on the protestors to restore normalcy but no incident of causalty or critical injuries have been reported from the area,'' said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commandant of CRPF identified as Rajinder Prasad who received critical injuries on his head was shifted to Sub-District Hospital Mendhar.
