Pravasi Malayalee Sangamam in Kerala next year: VS

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 22 (UNI) The''Pravasi Malayalee Sangamam 2008,'' a meet of Keralites staying abroad, will be held in Kochi in January next year.

The meet, which would see about 500 participants, would be held on January one and two next year, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters here.

He said photo identity cards for Non Resident Keralites (NRKs) would be disbursed at the meet.

The two-day event would focus on the overall welfare and issues concerning the NRKs, said Mr Achuthanandan, who is also the chairman of Roots-Norka.

The meet would also see prominent persons, including Union Ministers, in attendance, he added.

''Norkas new initiatives for NRKs,'' Opportunities for NRKs in Kerala'', ''Pravasi's and their problems'' are some of the topics to be discussed at the event.

When asked about the delay and rescheduling of flights from the state to the Gulf, Mr Achuthanandan said his government had taken up the issue with the Civil Aviation Ministry.

He said the government would talk to various airlines to bring down the ticket rates.
