Mobile tower radiations no threat to health, Govt

New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) The government today said electromagnetic radiations emitted by mobile phone towers have not shown any short or long term adverse effects on health.

According to the latest fact sheet of the World Health Organisation (WHO) the level of radiation within the safety limit is harmless, Minister of State for Communications Shakeel Ahmad said in a written repy to the Rajya Sabha.

''Since wireless networks produce generally lower RF signals than base stations, no adverse health effects are expected from exposure to them,'' the Minister said.

He said a Committee has been set up under the Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) as per orders of the Bombay High Court to study the effects of radiations from mobile phone towers and related aspects.

The Committee had studied the effects and concluded that overall there is not enough evidence to show direct health hazard of RF expsoure from mobile base stations.
