West Bengal: Kolkata returns to normalcy

Kolkata, Nov. 22, 2007 : Troops are still patrolling in certain localities of Kolkata, but the curfew has been lifted.

The curfew was imposed after a violent protest by the Islamic fundamentalist factions affiliated to All India Minority Forum, demanding expulsion of controversial Bangladeshi feminist writer Taslima Nasreen from West Bengal. However, troops continue to patrol the streets in certain localities.
