HC orders closure of 47 unauthorised stone crushing units
Chennai, Nov 22 (UNI) The First Bench of Madras High Court today ordered closure of 47 unauthorised stone crushing units at suburban Tambaram as they were causing dust pollution.
On a PIL filed by a local resident, the Bench, comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Ramasubramaniam, directed that eight of the 47 units should be closed with immediate effect.
The Bench also directed the stone units to apply and get license from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) in the next two weeks.
In his PIL, Ravindra Menon, contended that 47 of the 61 stone crushing units in the locality were illegal and the local residents were suffering from diseases caused by dust pollution.
He also sought a direction to the TNPCB to take action against the unauthorised units.
