'Assault' on DMK functionary condemned

Puducherry,Nov 22 (UNI) Condemning the alleged assault on a DMK functionary by a traffic policeman here this evening, State DMK Convenor R V Janakiraman today urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to take necessary action against the officer.

In a statement here tonight, Mr Janakiraman said despite Embalom Selvam pleading he had not violated traffic rules, the officer assaulted him in the presence of Embalom MLA Rajaraman which showed there was no security for any individual in Puducherry.

Mr Janakiraman cautioned the attack would not be considered as one against an individual, but as against the party.

A state-wide agitation would be organised if justice was not rendered.

He also said the issue would be taken up with the human rights commission.
