No closure of underground mines: Govt

New Delhi, Nov 21 (UNI) The Government denied in the Lok Sabha today that any decision had been taken on closure of underground mines.

''No decision has been taken regarding closure of mines as reported,'' Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayana Rao said, referring to the media report that the Government proposed to close down 60 underground mines.

He said the news item seemed to be in reference to the Apex Joint Consultative Committee meeting held on November 3, where information on loss-making underground mines was shared with the members.
