Midhani develops alloy for MIG aircraft engine

Hyderabad, Nov 21 (UNI) Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (Midhani), an integrated metallurgical facility, has developed Nickel-based cast super alloy for manufacturing aero-engines for MIG series, being manufactured at Hindustan Aeronautical Limited in Koraput.

Talking to newspersons here, Midhani Chairman and Managing Director M Narayana Rao said the alloy had better adaptability to make cast components of various complex shapes and configurations.

Stating that the Midhani was planning to launch a project to manufacture alloy requirement for Sukhoi-30 programme, he said the project would be completed in one year once the Sukhoi programme was taken up.

Earlier, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Chief Controller (R&D) Dipankar Banerjee handed over the 'type approval certificates' of four alloys to Mr Rao.

Dr Banerjee said space, nuclear energy and aeronautical sectors were the major markets for the Midhani to explore for growth opportunities.
