four
members
of
an
inter-state
gang
of
cheaters
and
recovered
Eight
mobile
sets,
two
titan
watches,
two
motorcycles
and
cash
in
all
worth
over
Rs
Eight
lakh.
Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner Narayan Nadamani said the gang cheated a local business man of Rs.22.5 lakh promising five kilograms of gold in exchange.
The gang members collected the money from the businessman and put it in a bag and managed another similar bag containing paper bundles and kept it with the businessman that they would return with the gold in ten minutes and fled the scene.
When they did not return even after another half an hour, the businessman opened the bag and found that he has been cheated of the money.
A team of policemen formed to nab the gang had succeeded in arresting four members of the gang with the accused Ahok Naidu alias Pappa still elusive.
The gang members hailed from Belgaum, Mangalore and Bagalkot districts and had undertaken similar operations in Maharashtra also, Mr Nadamani said.
All the arrested have been remanded to judicial custody.
