Farmer struck down by lightning

Thanjavur, Nov 21 (UNI) Monsoon rains claimed a farmer who was struck down by lightning and thunder at Budalore near Thanjavur last evening.

The farmer, Kumar (27), was engaged in agriculture works in his farm land when the mishap occured. He was charred to death on the spot.

PWD sources said following heavy rains in the Cauvery Delta Region, release of water from Mettrur reservoir was reduced to 5,000 cusecs.

Crops cultivated in thousands of acres of dry lands in Thanjavur, Thiruvavur and Nagapattinam received good rains, the sources said.
