Dalit woman commits suicide

Betul, MP, Nov 21 (UNI) A 30-year-old dalit rape victim, who had consumed poison at the Collectorate premises here yesterday, died today.

The woman, who hailed from of Bordehi Badgaon village, was a former panch. She was admitted to a missionary hospital at Pandhar area in this district, yesterday. She died early today.

Her husband Shyamlal Pandol said former Sarpanch's son Kallu Yaduvanshi had sexually assaulted his wife but no action was taken despite a case being filed in the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Police Station.

Moreover, village Sarpanch declared Kallu innocent and doubts were raised on his wife's character.

He said villagers did not come up to speak truth when called by the police.

Mr Pandol threatened that he would commit suicide if no action was taken.

The woman had made a corruption-related complaint against the then Sarpanch Suratlal Yaduvanshi during her tenure as panch in 2001. Since then, Kallu harboured animosity towards the woman.

Deputy Superintendent of Police V R Mahajan said a case had been registered against Kallu on the basis of the woman's complaint.
