Pondy: Cheque drawing powers to LB rep

Puducherry, Nov 21: The Puducherry administration has accorded cheque drawing powers to presidents and vice-presidents of village panchayats here.

Local Administration Department Director Vallabhan, in a release here yesterday, said a notification in this regard had already been issued.

The presidents and vice-presidents of the local bodies could jointly draw cheques for carrying out civil works and expenditure on 38 items, he added.

It may be noted that following the local body elections here one and a half years, the elected local body representatives were demanding devolution of powers.
