Wanted accused in Naroda Patia case held

Ahmedabad, Nov 20 (UNI) City Crime Branch sleuths have arrested one of the two absconding accused involved in the Naroda Patia case, in which 85 people were massacred and 29 others seriously injured in 2002.

Babubhai Jethabhai Marwadi alias Babu Vanzara, abscoding since 2002, was arrested by a Crime Branch team, led by its Inspector Tarun Barot, from Naroda industrial area of the city last night, Crime Branch sources said here today.

Police had so far arrested 45 accused, but the two were absconding.

Acting on a specific information, Mr Barot and his team set up a dragnet to nab Babu Vanzara near Kubernagar Chhapra and arrested him when he arrived there.

To evade arrest, Babu had taken shelter in Udva village near Vapi under fictitious name for the last two years.

Police have registered a case against him under sections 70, 82, 83 and others of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the sources added.
