Chandigarh, Nov 20 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues, PVSM VSM has expressed concern over the deplorable condition of Government Primary School of Bapu Dham Colony and Government Model School, Sector 26 here.
Gen Rodrigues and Ms Jean Rodrigues today went round the school classrooms and inspected the facilities.
He expressed anguish over the shortage of furniture, poor sanitation, damaged taps, leakage of water tanks, broken windowpanes and shabby surroundings in the schools and asked the senior officers to improve the infrastructure for providing a better environment to the students.
He told the officers and school management that any lackadaisical attitude will not be tolerated in discharge of their duties. He also set a deadline of a fortnight, for further upgrading the basic civic amenties, including water supply, sewerage, sanitation in the schools as well as Bapu Dham Colony.
General Rodrigues asked the Municipal Corporation and the District Administration to ensure effective coordination in carrying out various developmental projects in a time bound manner.
During his visit General Rodrigues also interacted with the area councilor and other community representatives and impressed upon them the need for participative endeavour, in the execution and montiroing of welfare schemes.
He asked the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner, Municipal Corporation to set up core groups, of social activists, to ensure their participation in the developmental programmes in all settlements and villages.
He asked the area Municipal Councillor and community representatives to periodically visit all public places and bring inadequacies and shortcomings to the notice of the authorities concerned in the Administration and the Municipal Corporation.
