Religious ceremonies at Sukhna lake banned

Chandigarh, Nov 20 (UNI) The Chandigarh Administration has prohibited performing of religious ceremonies and rituals at Sukhana lake here to maintain its eco-balance.

The prohibition orders under section 144 of CrPC were issued here yesterday by District Magistrate R K Rao.

Floating of lighted earthen lamp using mustard oil and bursting of fire crackers have been prohibited as performing of rituals was causing water pollution and noise pollution and also disturbing the eco balance in the Silence Zone of lake .

The order would come into force from zero hour today and remain effective upto January 18, 2008.
