Man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing son-in-law

Port Blair, Nov 20 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar Islands Sessions Judge N K Ghoshal today sentenced a person to life imprisonment for murdering his son-in-law.

The Sessions Judge convicted one Rantu Kerketta, a resident of Port Mout village of South Andaman, and awarded him life imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

Public Prosecutor Santosh Kumar Mondal told UNI today that the convict had struck the victim repeatedly with a sharp weapon, resulting in his death at Port Mout.

Later, the convict fled from the spot.

The Andaman and Nicobar Police arrested the accused and the weapon used in the crime was produced by him during interrogation.

He also confessed to the murder before the judicial magistrate, who passed the sentence, convicting him under section 302 of the IPC, the public prosecutor added.
