Major tragedy averted, another blast in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 20 (UNI) A powerful blast near a bridge shook north Kashmir while a major tragedy was averted in central Kashmir, official sources said.

They said an explosive device went off near Pohru Bridge at Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara.

However, there was no report of any loss of life or damage to property in the blast, the sound of which was heard in the entire area.

They said a joint patrol party of security forces and police detected a powerful mine planted by militants to target troops at Shahpora, Wathora. The entire area was sealed and the mine was later defused without causing any damage by Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
