Lakhowal demand prompt release of Tikait

Moga, Nov 20 (UNI) Chairman Punjab Mandi Board and President Bharti Kisan Union, Punjab, Ajmer Singh Lakhowal today strongly condemned Uttar Pradesh government for putting behind bars Mahender Singh Tikait, national president of Bharti Kisan Union, in a 20-year-old case.

Mr Lakhowal, while interacting with mediapersons here this morning, appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to personally intevene to ensure the release of the prominent farmer leader.

"I am pained to see such injustice meted out to a national-level farmer leader and on behalf of the farmer community demand his immediate release, he said.

Mr Lakhowal also said that he would soon visit Meerut, the stranglehold of Mr Tikait in Uttar Pradesh, to assess the situation following the BKU supremo's arrest.
