CM lays foundation stone for Uranium plant

Kadapa, Nov 20 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today performed 'Bhoomipuja' and laid the foundation stone for the Rs 1,106.25-crore uranium mining and processing plant, with a production capacity of 3,000 tonnes a day, at Tummalapalle in Kadapa district.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Reddy said the plant will not only generate nuclear power, but also provide employment opportunities to the unemployed youth. Small and medium industries would also come up in the area which would generate additional employment opportunities.

Underground mining would be carried out in the new plant unlike the open cast mining plant at Jaduguda in Jharkhand.

The Uranium Corporation India Limited has acquired 1,122 acres of government land and 1,118 acres from private parties to set up the project. The unit would be operationalised in three years.
