US basketball player found dead in Brazil

BRASILIA, Nov 19 (Reuters) A former Washington State University basketball player who was missing for two weeks was found dead in a small town in Brazil, police said today.

Tony Harris, who starred at Washington State in the early 1990s and went on to play professionally in South America, was found yesterday hanging from a tree on an Army training ground in Formosa, about 45 minutes outside of the capital of Brasilia, a police spokeswoman said by telephone.

Harris, who resumed playing professionally this month for a team in Brasilia, had been missing for around two weeks. The spokeswoman, who did not give her name, said he committed suicide but have not ruled out homicide.

The clothes on the body matched those Harris was described as wearing when he left Brasilia, police said. A family member who traveled to Brazil from the United States will be shown the body on Monday for identification, the U.S. Embassy said.
