TN launches drive to stop engaging children in work places

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 19 (UNI) Tiruchirapalli District administration today launched a special drive to verify whether children under the age of 14 were engaged by industries and commercial establishments, according to District Collector Ashish Vachhani.

In a press release here, he warned that employers, including roadside eateries and motor vehicle repair shops, found engaging children would be liable to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 and face prosecution.

Mr Vachhani said the officials of Labour Department, Medical and Child Labour Elimination and Effective Rehabilitation Society (CHEERS) would participate in the surprise checks.

Commercial establishments were directed to put up sign-boards, stating that no children were employed by them, he added.
