SC dismisses PIL seeking guidelines for road block agitations
New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a PIL seeking to lay down guidelines for road block agitations being resorted in various parts of the country causing hardships to the public.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justices R V Raveendran and J M Panchal dismissed the petition filed by one R Chandra Shekhar Reddy seeking directions to the government of various states not to permit road blockade agitations as they create problems for the public.
The counsel for the petitioner had also contended that it was a serious matter as in Kerala and Tamil Nadu roads were blocked from morning to evening over the issue of construction of Mulla Periyar Dam, which is being opposed and agitators cannot be allowed to hold the public to ransom.
